A Well Stocked Pantry is the Key to Quick Meals

One of the best ways to improve your health and save money is to cook more meals at home! In January we make decisions about how to improve our life, health and pocketbook so that means we are all looking for practical ways to integrate our new goals easily into our lives. The question I ask is, "What is preventing you from cooking more at home?" One of the primary responses is that people don’t have the right foods or spices to cook with. I have to admit that is a good reason not to cook! I consider myself a solution-oriented person so I wanted to find a way to address this issue of people not having what they need in their homes to cook with. I devoted an entire section to what I believe are the essentials to have in your kitchen. One of the secrets to easy cooking is to have a well-stocked pantry. If you have most of the ingredients you need to cook in your kitchen, cooking becomes easy and quick. You can also make substitutions of one item for another if you have plenty of options available. Once you start cooking you will notice that you tend to use some of the same ingredients in many different dishes. This makes cooking easier because you have what you need at your fingertips.

Many items you need for cooking are non-perishable so you can buy them and they will have a long shelf. This includes grains, pastas, canned or dry beans and canned seafood. You can turn up the flavor of all your meals with the right herbs, spices, oils and other condiments.
