This month on HealthyDaes.org we will spend time having heart smart conversations to help you cultivate heart health in your life. Let’s start with the basics. What is heart disease? Do you know what diseases are considered heart disease?
Heart disease is a general term that refers to any disease or condition that affects the heart or the blood vessels including disorders of the valves, congenital conditions, heart infections and conduction disorders. Examples of conditions that would fall under the category of heart disease are high blood pressure (hypertension), high cholesterol, heart attack (myocardial infarction), atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, angina, mitral regurgitation, mitral value prolapse, cardiomyopathy, congenital heart disease, heart arrhythmias and heart failure.
If you have any of these conditions then every time they talk about heart disease in the news, they are talking about you. If your immediate family has any of these then you have a family history and increased risk for heart disease. It makes it more personal to understand articles and stories may be talking about you.
More importantly, you can pay close attention to tools that can help you create heart health in you life. Your heart is an amazing organ that gives life so we should give it attention and support to keep us living healthy!
