For the Mother in All of Us

Mother's day family nurturing

This Sunday is Mother’s Day.  It is a time to celebrate the gifts and lessons that our mother’s have shared with us during our lifetime.

One of the ways to Nurturing the Sweetness in Life is to have gratitude to the women, the mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and best friends of our mothers who have shared in our growth and development over the years of our life.  Did you know having gratitude for your mother can improve your health and your mother’s health as well.

Here is an article about celebrating mother’s day around the world.  http://www.healthydaes.com/blog/2015/5/8/celebrating-mothers-day-with-gratitude-around-the-world

Being your own mother

While it wonderful to buy dinners and gifts to show your appreciation to these nurturing women can you do something unexpected for them as well?  Perhaps 2 weeks after Mother’s day you can send them a handwritten note telling them how much you appreciate them.  It will be a wonderful surprise.

When we think of the word mother we also often think about the word nurture as well.  In addition honoring the women in your life I want you to ask you honor the mother in yourself.

Definition of Mother

Yes, the definition of mother is a woman who gives birth to a child.  But other definitions includes a woman who creates, originates or found something; a woman respected for her wisdom and age; and exhibiting maternal love and tenderness.

Whether you are a man or woman you still can access the traits above to help you to nurture yourself.

Nurture Yourself

Answer the following questions to see how you are doing with nurture yourself.

  • When is the last time you did something loving for yourself?
  • When have you created something you were excited for yourself? (a nice dinner, a model plane, an event)
  • What gift or talent are you well respected for? When is the last time you shared your gift with someone else?
  • What have you done to nurture yourself in the last 7 day? (Exercise, got enough sleep, eating healthy food)

If you were completely honest with your mom about how you are taking care of yourself what grade would she give you?  If you are not getting a B+ or better start thinking about how you can take better care of yourself.  Momma knows best.

You can’t have a sweet life if you don’t have the energy or health to enjoy it!

To Your One Sweet Life,
