Health is the Ultimate in Independence
July 4th is the perfect day to talk about the importance of independence! It seems that we are always striving for independence in one way or another.
When we are children we want to be independent eat what we want when we want. When we are adults we want to make our own decisions at work and at home. When we become elders we want to live independently from our children and relations watchful eyes.
Independence is defined as freedom from the control, influence, support, aid, or the like, of others.
Have you ever stopped to think about what is ultimate in independence?
I say it’s having your HEALTH! Health is something that everyone says is important but as far as priorities it falls low on the list.
When you have your health you have freedom! You are the one in control. Freedom is waking up with full of passion for your day. You can go to work, or volunteer in your community with your full energy to do your tasks.
When you wake up in pain or you can’t leave the house without taking medications every day for the rest of your life, you are NOT free! You are a slave to a limiting way of life.
This is you if you are taking meds for chronic illnesses like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s, cancer, arthritis, pulmonary disease, or autoimmune disease.
Which way do you want to live?
If you want freedom and independence then you want your health. According to the US Surgeon General, 70% of all chronic diseases could be avoided by lifestyle habits – eating habits, stress management, and exercise.
I will add sleeping habits to that list!
Lifestyle habits are so much simpler than people think! They are so much more fun too especially when you do them with others in your community. Thank you for joining the Your One Sweet Life community so I can share my healthy habits with you. Even better you can share them with me!
This month’s theme is gaining your health is gaining your independence and freedom.
