The Pain of Discipline or the Pain of Regret – Which do you choose?

Last week I attended a business conference and the theme was discipline.  I found it to be a wonderful theme for the conference because it speaks to an important trait that, when developed, changes every aspect of our lives... especially our health. One of the quotes that impacted me the most during the weekend was written by Jim Rohn, an entrepreneur and motivational educator.  I decided to make it a theme for this month.  Discipline creates a sweet life.

“We must all suffer from one of two pains: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.” Jim Rohn

Discipline is a requirement for a healthy life.  Discipline is an activity, exercise, or a regimen that develops or improves a skill. Another definition is training.  This is a very positive trait to develop in your life.

I think most people are turned off by the word discipline because they believe that discipline includes some type of punishment as part of the training.

Regret, on the other hand, is a heavy burden to live with as it relates to your health.  Let me give you an example.  One of my dear friends called me last year to tell me that her husband, who was under the age of 50, had a heart attack and was in the hospital.  When I went to visit them a few weeks later, they had completely improved their diets and changed them mostly to plant-based diets (they are Eating More Plants) to create health. They said they had been considering a more healthy diet for months but, as you know, life got in the way.

The regret was that her husband had to have a heart attack before they took action to improve their health.  Do you know someone, perhaps you, that keeps putting off healthy changes because life keeps getting in the way?

Do you want to wake up with regret because of a diagnosis of high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, a heart condition, arthritis, night sweats or infertility?

Discipline is such a better option.  If you don’t know how to create discipline in your life, we can help.  Our team supports practice members in creating discipline and success every day!  We even make it fun! We want to be part of your health solution and journey.

To Your One Sweet Life,

PS - One of our disciplines is to laugh every day in our office.  It is one of our favorite disciplines, as it relieves stress as well.
