The Hardest Discipline – The Discipline of the Mind


The National Science Foundation estimate that our brains have the ability to produce 12,000 to 50,000 thoughts on any given day.  Our minds like to go in many different topics. Calming the mind is one of the most important disciplines of all. The most successful people in the world have disciplined minds.  There are many tools that can be used to discipline the mind one of my favorites is meditation.

Meditation is the art of deep breathing!  

Many people see the word meditation and they run as far and fast as they can away from meditation.  The number reason people say they CAN’T meditate is because they can’t shut off their mind. NEWS FLASH – no one can shut off their mind.  You can learn to quite the mind, to have less thoughts and that is a wonderful experience. It takes practice, discipline, and it worth every moment of attention.  Meditation is medication for the mind.

Did you know that medicine and meditation come from the same Sanskrit root word meaning to take the measure of and to care for.  When you practice breathing it calms the mind, the nervous system and the spirit.

Breathing is one of my favorite tools to help us get disciplined in so many different ways.  Here is a very simple 3 minute breathing exercise for you to try.
