Exercise and weight loss are NOT the same thing!

The idea of achieving healthy weight loss is as important as ever. It is more important because we know that being overweight or obese increases your risk of being susceptible to COVID-19.

One of my good friends shared this article about the relationship between weight loss and exercise. It was first published in 2016 but it has some really good information surrounding myths that exercise is the only way to create healthy weight loss. I will share the subheading for each of the sections. I would love you to take a few minutes to read all the sections or at least the ones that feel important to you.

Health is on everyone’s minds these days. While I am excited that people are wanting to take their health more seriously, it concerns me that there is so much bad information floating around out there, especially about weight loss.

I can’t tell you the number of people I speak to that truly believe all of their weight and health issues solely revolve around the amount of exercise they are or aren’t doing. In this article, written by Julia Belluz and Javier Zarracina, they reviewed over 60 studies and found that exercise is not the key to losing weight. It is the key to better health and maintaining weight loss once you have achieved it.

You have to understand that weight is a symptom that something is going wrong with your hormones and your metabolism. What is important is to treat the underlying health issues. When you treat the underlying cause, the excess weight gets corrected as well.

Here are the key points of the article:

  1. An evolutionary clue to how our bodies burn calories

  2. Exercise is excellent for health

  3. Exercise alone is almost useless for weight loss

  4. Exercise accounts for a small portion of daily calorie burn

  5. It’s hard to create a significant calorie deficit through exercise

  6. Exercise can undermine weight loss in other, subtle ways

  7. Exercise may cause physiological changes that help us conserve energy

  8. Energy expenditure might have an upper limit

  9. The government and the food industry are doling out unscientific advice

  10. So what actually works for weight loss?

The message of the article is that you have to have a holistic approach to your weight (and your health) in order to achieve lasting results. This is exactly the message that I have been sharing with you for years!

Dr. Daemon Jones

Your expert for diabetes, hormones, metabolism and weight loss

I fell in love with naturopathic medicine when I was a patient in my corporate job working 80 hours per week. I was constantly fatigued, having digestive and female hormonal issues crying on the way to work, thinking I don’t know how to feel better.

I was referred to naturopathic doctor who completely changed the course of my entire life because she guided me step by step and in a few months resolved all of my health issues and provided energy and new passion in my life!

She used a combination of conventional and natural therapies to treat the underlying cause of my symptoms, Naturopathic medicine, and educated me about new lifestyle habits. I was so captivated by this philosophy I went changed my trajectory, I took the pre-medical requirements to get into naturopathic medical school quit my job and became a physician.

For over 20 years I work with women who are struggling with health issues around menopause (pre and post), weight gain, diabetes, thyroid problems, who often don’t realize those health issues are coming from hormonal imbalances that haven’t been addressed or treated. They are frustrated by not getting answers from the conventional medical system and just want to feel better.

Every book, online course, keynote speaking engagement or workshop that I have put together is in service to helping women understand what is happening in their bodies and finding the best solution, conventional or naturopathic to solve their problem and improve their health well-being and vitality.

I live and work in Washington DC and through the power of technology have been able
to work with women all over the country and the world.
